I am so glad to look outside and see the sun today....I thought that I would share a few spring blooms that I'm seeing. Our Bradford Pears are beautiful.

Busy...Busy. Starting Friday I went to Lori's at Not Forgotten Farm and got some new fabrics. Boy she has some beautiful ones. This is what I got arent they nice?
After that I ran a few errands and was home for the weekend. Lots of projects to do and things to get done. I was able to get the bunnies done that I will be taking to Millstone at the end of the week. If you havent had a chance to stop in you really should.
I also redid my washroom. Here are some before and after pictures.

After being MIA for about a year alot has happened. First and most exciting I am now peddling my primitive goods at Millstone Merchantile . The shop had its Grand Opening today and I was great. Robin has done such a great job and if your in the area (Madison Heights, Virginia)be sure and stop by. Here are a few pictures of some of the great things to be found in the shop

I finally got it.
I have been in search of a pie safe for years one that I really liked. Well yesterday was the day after years of looking I bought a pie safe that I just love. Not only is it exactly what I have looked for but I found out that there is a stamp on the back saying that it had been shipped to the Arrington Depot hear in the nelson county where I live that is no longer there,to a William S. Penn. Who knows what year but I would love to find out the history behind it. After cleaning it a little and wiping it down with some was I found a new home for her in my morning room and filled it with a few goodies.

Isnt she pretty. I would love to know when it dates back to. If any ideas let me know. Thanks for stopping by.

Well the Christmas rush is over and a great holiday it was I was able to spend alot of time with friends and family Because of the predicted ice things were postponed to different days which was nice because, it was spread out over 4 days instead of one.
I wanted to share a wool aplique that I have made. I made a pattern to this Santa and hope to get it printed soon. I have a big birthday coming tomorrow and it is really bothering me the big 40 I dont know why but this one really is. Oh well getting older is better than the alternative.Hee Hee.... Happy New Years everyone 2010 is going to be a great one.

Well I am glad to say that I am on the mend definately feeling better just not 100% yet. I finished my wool tote and wanted to share with you.
Today I started out early and you can denfinately tell the fall is here. I just love the crisp feeling of the air and driving out of my road this morning it was beautiful with the suns rays shining throught the trees.

I also wanted to let you know about a new candle scent. I am a big fan of yankee and wood wick candles. I love harvest, mccintosh, and in the woodwick I love rum raisen. Well today I went and they were not carrying the rum raisen this year but they had a new wood wick scent called Cider. So I bought one and got it home and OH MY GOSH!! It is my my favorite of all time. It is wonderful. smells up the house quickly and it is nice.

Well the last week has been MISERABLE!!!!I have been the sickest that I have ever been it started off as the flu and then went into bronchitis. After dizziness, throwing up, chills, fever, headache, body hurting all over, The cough that wont quit, sore throat, weakness and the latest addition frequent trips to the bathroom I think it may be coming to an end. No pun intended. It has been a solid week of hell. I think the meds are finally kicking in because I have started a new project today. My husband said that he knew I was really sick because I haven't stitched, punched, hooked or painted anything for a solid week. I truly did not have the energy or the want to do anything. I was tested when I went to the Dr. office for the swine flu and that was negative I suppose it was just a heck of a case of the regular flu. Oh my I would not wish this on anyone. Well enough about the creepy crud. Look at my new project. I have started making a wool tote. I thinks I am going to put a sheep on the outside pocket and I have lined it with some homespun. I will keep you posted on my progress on it. I hope everyone else is doing well.

What a busy, busy weekend. This was my very first show and boy do you work your but off for these things. Lori from Not Forgotten Farm did a great job in hosting the first annual "Primitive Gathering of friends" It was a great weekend and lots of fun was had. Here are a few photos of my booth.

Directly behind my booth you can see Lori's addorable shop. Also I wanted to share a photos of a pretty neat kid. Corbin is 16 from Amherst Va, and he can play the banjo, guitar, juice harp and who knows what else like nobodys business.

Well I have been a bad girl. I have been busy and have not been keeping up with my blog but I am going to try and do better.
First I want to thank Sarah at All roads lead home for the awsome giveaway that I won.
She was so generous with all of the goodies that she included and I cant wait to find a spot for them in my house.
Also my little girl graduated from the 8th grade and will be starting High School next year. Oh my gosh time has flown. She finished the year with honors and we are so proud of her. Heres a picture of her and her dad on graduation day.
I also had a chance to participate in a folk life festival with one of my best friends Lori from Not Forgotten Farm. It was hot but we had a great time. Heres Lori demonstrating needle punch.
The fellow on the right is Corbin and he is 14 and can play a banjo like nobodys business. And by the way he made the banjo that he is playing.

I have a new favorite spot that I love to sit at in the evening when everything is cooling down and just relax a while on my porch.
Last week I bought a wonderful new swing that I cant wait to hang on the other side.
My husband and I garden and work in the yard often but I will have to admit one of my favorite things to do at home is float in the pool.
I also wanted to share a photo of my butterfly bush I just love the purple blooms
Every summer a bird builds nest in one of my ferns on the front porch and here is a glimpse of this years babies

Today I went to Lori's and I am so excited because I purchased a new rug hooking frame and I just cant wait to hook something on it. For those of you who know Lori from "Not Forgotten Farm" She is one tough cookie. I just love her to death but God sure does throw alot her way. Not only is she caring for a terminally ill sister but now she has kidney stones. So please keep her and her family in yours prayers.

I am almost embarrassed to post since it has been so long. I keep saying I will do better then I get busy and...... Well my sister had her baby Megan Brooke Whetsel 8lbs. and 21 inches long and she is beautiful. I have been busy working on projects inside and out getting the garden adn flowers planted and opening the pool. Last week I got back from a week long business trip to Boston. Its was nice but I will have to say I am NOT a city girl. I have been running to my daughters softball games and I am sad to say that the season is over. She seems to be growing up tooooo... fast. Oh well after I complete some projects this weekend I promise to post some photos. I hope everyone is doing well.

Spring is here for sure. Today in the lower 70's and tomorrow in the upper 70's and sunny. Im getting my cleaning done today so that I can play tomorrow. (Yard Sales and Thrifting) This week was nice after a great Easter Sunday!! I went to my Nannies and had a great day.

Hey Ladies,
I wanted to share with you the prize that I won and was in the mail for me this evening when I got home. I won it from Crows Nest Primitive Shoppe. It is two beeswax candles and boy do they smell good.
I also wanted to show you a pillow that I just finished. I know its not fall yet buy I am getting ready for the show at Not Forgotten Farm. Its wool applique and all hand stitched. I was happy with it what do you think.

Well I know you may have been thinking that I had disappeared but Im still here. I have just been very busy. I have lots to catch up on. For starters I have been TS shopping and yard sale searching. I found a few wooden things that I cant wait to prim up.
I also found this chair wing back chair and Im either going to find a cover for it or attempt to cover it myself. I am thinking burgundy and cream check. What do you think. Oh yeh I paid $10.00 for the chair.

Oh yeh my sister is having a baby girl in May and we went to her baby shower last sunday isnt she beautiful!!

On our way to the shower we came upon a barn not to far from home that was on fire and we could feel the heat from the road these are before and after photos

I have also been busy going to my daughters softball games. It is something that she definatlely loves.
Also I decided it was time to give my family room a facelift. I wish that I had taken before photos but shame on me I forgot but I do have after. The walls were white and the corner cabinets were burgundy. I decided to go with a wall color called dust bunny and then panted the cabinets a off white then sanded the edges to bring the burgundy back through. Last I also did the mantel because I looked funny being brown next the cabinets.

Then there was a shelf that I had hanging up high that was a natural wood color and a little table that I have that I decided would look better if I panted them black and sanded the edges.

I also finished the my fly cover. Thanks Char at Pickeled Pepper Patch and under the fly cover is a pantry cake that I made. I was pretty happy with how this turned out.

I to wanted to let you know that I am doing my first show Sept 19th at Not Forgotten Farm. Lori is having her first annual "Gathering of Primitive Friends" This will be in Nelson County, Virginia. I am very excited and I am sure we will have a great time.

I just love spring and today is the first day. Its like a new beginning and a fresh start. I love the budding flowers and warm breezes. Another thing that I love is in the evening when you here the spring peepers and the lonesome sound of a whiper-whil. Its also time to get some spring cleaning done hanging things out to dry and getting all of the dust out. This weekend is supposed to be a little cool but very nice. Get out and enjoy!!!

Good Sunday evening to everyone!!!
Well I will have to say that this weekend has been a wet one. Hayli is feeling better, still a little cough but I have wiped everything down with Clorox hoping to kill any leftover germs. Yesterday we went to Lori's at Not Forgotten Farm and visited with her and Felicia. Those two should have there own show they keep me laughing and I just love them. I came home and made potato soup and some good crusty bread. yummy!!! Today I woke up and read the new country sampler and the Mercantile Magazine that I bought at Lori's those are two great magazines. Today after lunch Hayli and I went to The High School here in Nelson to watch a play, put on by the high school drama club "The Wedding Singer". They did a fantastic job. Hannah Lori's daughter was in the play and she was great. Those kids really do have allot of talent way to go!!! Well back to work tomorrow and I will post some new pic's soon on some things that I have been working on until then take care.

* LIFE IN THE 1500'S *

The next time you are washing your hands and complain because the water temperature isn't just how you like it, think about how things used to be. Here are some facts about the 1500's:

Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May, and still smelled pretty good by June. However, they were starting to smell, so brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor. Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.

Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water.The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children. Last of all the babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it. Hence the saying, Don't throw the baby out with the Bath water.

Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof. Hence the saying. It's raining cats and dogs.

There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house.This posed a real problem in the bedroom where bugs and other droppings could mess up your nice clean bed. Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection. That's how canopy beds came into existence.

Beds used to consist just of a frame & matress. The matress was not held by a box spring and boards, but instead heavy ropes were tied across the frame of the bed to hold the matress in place. So, each night before a person would lay in bed, they had to take a hand hewn wooden winder and tighten the strings of the bed so it wouldn't sag throughout the night. Hence the saying, Sleep tight.

The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt. Hence the saying, Dirt poor.

The wealthy had slate floors that would get slippery in the winter when wet, so they spread thresh (straw) on floor to help keep their footing. As the winter wore on, they added more thresh until, when you opened the door, it would all start slipping outside. A piece of wood was placed in the entranceway. Hence the saying a thresh hold.

In those old days, they cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle that always hung over the fire. Every day they lit the fire and added things to the pot. They ate mostly vegetables and did not get much meat. They would eat the stew for dinner, leaving leftovers in the pot to get cold overnight and then start over the next day. Sometimes stew had food in it that had been there for quite a while. Hence the rhyme; Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in the pot nine days old.

Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special. When visitors came over, they would hang up their bacon to show off. It was a sign of wealth that a man could bring home the bacon. They would cut off a little to share with guests and would all sit around and chew the fat.

Those with money had plates made of pewter. Food with high acid content caused some of the lead to leach onto the food, causing lead poisoning death. This happened most often with tomatoes, so for the next 400 years or so, tomatoes were considered poisonous.

Bread was divided according to status. Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf, the family got the middle, and guests got the top, or the upper crust.

Lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky. The combination would sometimes knock the drinkers out for a couple of days. Someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them for burial. They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around and eat and drink and wait and see if they would wake up. Hence the custom of holding a wake.

England is old and small and the local folks started running out of places to bury people. So they would dig up coffins and would take the bones to a bone-house, and reuse the grave. When reopening these coffins, 1 out of 25 coffins were found to have scratch marks on the inside and they realized they had been burying people alive. So they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, lead it through the coffin and up through the ground and tie it to a bell. Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the graveyard shift.) to listen for the bell; thus, someone could be, saved by the bell or was considered a ...dead ringer.

Now, whoever said History was boring ! ! !

Hey Guys,
Well its Tuesday evening and I wish I could say that my daughter Hayli is alot better but, thats not the case she has improved some but this flu has definately taken its toll on her. I took her to the Dr. yesterday and the flu seems to be what she has. With her not being able to speak very well because, of the extremely sore throat I gave her a litte pot and a wooden spoon to beat on when she needed me. OMG!!!!!! what was I thinking??? I think she must have been a drumer in a former life. Bless her heart I just want her to feel better soon.

I hope everyone has had a great weekend it certainly has been beautiful. Unfortunatly I have been in the house all weekend long. My daughter Hayli is very sick. I think it is a flu bug which many have had but I became a little more worried than normal today because I have been trying to get her 102.9 temp to come down. Not much time for much esle. I has been nice feeling the warm breeze coming through the window though. I cant wait until these temps are the norm. Im getting my husband to put up a clothes line because I really miss the smell of sheets that have been hung out on the line to dry. Well wishes to everyone and I hope all have a good week.

Well I got very pleasant surprise this evening. When I got home there was a package from Julie at "Country Girl at Heart". Inside was a beautiful wallhanging that is much prettier in person. I just love it and cant wait to hang it. Thanks Julie.
This weekend is going to be so nice I cant wait for warmer temperatures. Hayli has her first softball scrimage of the season. Warmer weather is on the way. I have been working on a rug hooking project every night this week and I cant wait to show you the finished project. I hope everyone is having a great week.

Today was another good day. To start off with I learned that I won the drawing from Julie "Country Girl at Heart" I am so excited because I never win anything.I won this beautiful wall hanging. Thank you so much Julie. I also visited my good friend Lori at "Not Forgotten Farm" because today is her Birthday. She also gave me some needed help while I was there. Thank you Lori. I then came home and got busy stitching and finishing up some projects that I will have on my blog tomorrow. Night Night everyone!!!

Today has been a great day. After doing a little bit of marketing for my husband who refinishes hard wood floors I am finally back home. I am excited because tomorrow I plan on listing some items that I will have for sale. Today also would have been my Daddy's 67th birthday. I lost my Dad 25 years ago and I still sure do miss him. But I am lucky to have had him in my life and I am treasure all of my memories of him. I hope everyone has a great evening and check back for my handmade goodies.

Today has been such a nice day! First after waking up and cleaning up a bit I decided to go to the thrift store in search of wool. I had no luck but I was able to find four mini loaf pans so I was not totally out of luck. Then I went to visit the girls at Not Forgotten Farm, Lori and Felicia they are always so sweet and helpful. I then went to the store to get the ingredients to make mini poppy seed loafs. After that I plan on working on some rug hooking. I cant forget to mention that the weather is absolutely beautiful today. I opened the windows to let the house air out and it is so nice. This weather only makes me want spring even more.

Today was a very nice day. I first got up and cleaned a bit. Then I went to help Aunt Peggy get started with her needle punch /hook project. I am now in love with the new Punch that she bought at Not Forgotten Farm. I have got to have one but I was unable to make it back before she closes. I then left there and went help my sister clean and organize. OMG!!!!! and then back home to rest and of course a little rug hooking later.

Well I will have to say that the ice was very pretty Im glad that I didnt have to go out in it yesterday. It was nice to have a pot of soup on and take time to set and get some needle punching done. I finished my bunny and I love it. I also found some more wool this past weekend whoo hoo!!!!! Its the little things that make you happy. Well warmer temps this coming weekend.

Today was great although it is beyond cold outside it was a very nice day. My friend Sharon, my daughter Hayli and her friend Elizabeth went to Not Forgotten Farm for a needle felting class. Its was so much fun. Lori's shop is so.... nice. With the wood stove going she taught us how to needle felt. Lots of fun!!!! A good day.

Its the beginning of a new year. And I am trying to think about things a little differently. Try not to worrie about things that you cannot change and make te best of each and every day. The temps outside are 15 degrees BURRRRR!!! I am very excited about several projects that I have going on right now and Sat I will be goning to Loris at Not Forgotten Farm for a needle felting class.
